Perodua to re-enter used-car business to complement new car business

The second national car company Perodua (Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd) is set to re-enter the used-car business after it stopped its operations 2 years ago.

According to Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh, the Managing Director of Perodua, they are planning and targeting to reintroduce this segment sometime in the middle of this year which is an area which they have been previously involved in.

He said that the company is currently in the process of getting the right people for the jobs in the company that will handle the used-car segment. This is where it is positioned to complement its new car segment which is their major market. He also said that the company currently do not have experts in this area and that was the problem that they faced the first time they ventured into this segment back in August 2008.

The company now hopes that by getting the right people in, they can kick-start with better results as compared to their last attempt which saw them ceasing operations after 2 years. Hence, they are looking for the experts both from within and outside the company and ensure a good plan is in place before launching it again. Phase 1 will involved other used-car dealers and it is meant to help their customers trade-in their current vehicles when buying Perodua vehicles.
