Peugeot 308 set to make waves

The Peugeot 308 GT is definitely a cheaper drive but gives the Cooper S a run for its money. To say the least, both the cars uses the same engine but comes standard and well equipped as a 4 seater while the Cooper is more likened to be a 2 seater. Its engine comes standard as the 1.6 liter Prince version which includes direct injection and single twin scroll turbocharger. The original engine gives you up to 175 horsepower and 240Nm of torque from 1,500rpm.

The design of the 308 is something which had so far garnered mixed reaction. Where this is concern, the 18 inch wheels gives you the stability impression even before you start driving it. The tail pipe is well hidden so you won’t find the bulge anywhere at the back of the car. This is not something that goes very well with anyone who likes a more sporty look.

Insdie the car, like most Peugeot cars, it gives you the classy feeling with its dashboard that tilts towards the front. Most of the entertainment information are shown through its LCD display which includes all other vital information when driving. There are also information which are channeled through by the sensors that inform you about anything it finds nearby. Auto-door lock information and any other details are also displayed here. Entertainment wise, the car comes standard with a JBL powered audio system.

In Malaysia, there will be 2 versions of the 308 namely the Peugeot 308 VTi and the Peugeot 308 Turbo which are priced at RM96,500 and RM111,000 respectively. For both the variants, they come standard with the System Tiptronic Porsche automatic transmission. Mr S M Nasaruddin, Executive Chairman of Nasim Sdn Bhd, which is a subsidiary of Naza Group, “The performance of the 308 Turbo is already as good as some 2.0 litre competitors and in some cases even better. The 308 offers a combination of strong engine performance, with top-notch creature comforts, space and safety for both the VTi and Turbo and these alone, are strong points for anyone considering the new 308. Our theme ‘Naturally Efficient’ for the launch shows just how far the automobile has progressed and in the 308’s case, it represents efficiency in all areas; performance, spaciousness, fuel economy, safety and also towards the environment.”

With the positive response globally and the warm receipt of the local crowd, this car would go a long way and would definitely one for its competitors to look out for.
