Tan Chong launches new UD Trucks brand, future looking good

Wong King Yoon, the Executive Director of TCIE (Tan Chong Industrial Equipment Sdn Bhd) said that the company which is part of ETCM (Edaran Tan Chong Motors Bhd) involved with commercial vehicles is targeting to sell 1,600 units for 2011. The company currently carries 12 models of commercial vehicles that includes buses, and light to heavy trucks.

The company is the exclusive distributor of UD Trucks, which is part of the Volvo Group. Wong was speaking at the launch of the new UD Trucks brand identity at the KLIMS (Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show) 2010 where he said that they are targeting to roll out 250 units of the heavy-duty CKM 272 DT, while for the light-duty YU41T5 model and the rest, other models, the company is targeting to sell 550 units. The latter is priced at RM100,500 while the CKM 272 DT is priced at RM254,000.

He also said that in the local market, UD Trucks are fourth in the LCV (Light Commercial Segment) last year with a 12 percent market share and that the company is confident that they will be able to retain their position as well as their market share for 2010. As for the heavy duty segment, the company’s 624 units in sales meant they hold 28 percent of market share in 2009.
