The plant will then be employing some 4,000 workers where the project will cost €520million, which is joint between VW and FAW, their Chinese counterpart. Currently, the partnership of FAW-VW and Shanghai Volkswagen controls 9 manufacturing plants across the country where they produce 20 different models ranging from the Volkswagen cars, Audi and Skoda models. VW takes the China market very seriously where it recently announced that they will be increasing their investments in the operations of their brand to €6billion.
For 2010, VW is planning to launch 7 new or locally produced models which means they will then have 20 new models by the year 2012 while plans are in place to start rolling out electric cars before 2015. Records have been very promising with VW selling an increase of 48% in sales in China (778,000) from January to May 2010.
