20% of Malaysian made 207 to be exported

The Peugeot 207 is the first Peugeot to roll out from its Malaysian manufacturing plant and was launched by the former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Of the launch, he said that he is confident that the group will be able to expand their business and do well in the industry and that he hoped to see the company garnering more market share in the future. Dr Mahathir is also currently the adviser of national car maker Proton Group Berhad.

It will be sold for RM70,832.50 and comes with a 1.6 liter engine. The company is targeting at young families and urban consumers. Jean-Yves Dossal, the PSA Group's sales director, Asian operations said that Malaysia will remain as the biggest market around this region while exporting to Thailand and then to Indonesia.

He added that the 207 will be put on show at next year’s Bangkok International Motor Show and that it is now ready for shipping overseas from its Gurun RM500million manufacturing plant. Naza Group was recently appointed the exclusive distributor and manufacturer of Peugeot cars for the region.
