200,000 Toyota Prius recalled

Akio Toyoda, the president of the world’s largest automaker told the media that the recall might affect the US market. The company announced that the Prius will be recalled in Europe and in Japan and if the US is raked into this exercise, the number could increase to 300,000 of the third generation of the Prius in addition to the recent recall of other models with problems with the sticky gas accelerator pedal.

Its spokesman for the US headquarters in Torrance in California, Mike Michels said that there is no confirmation on whether the recall would involve the US yet but it could coincide with the Japan exercise. Officials from Toyota went to the Japan’s Transport Ministry to formally inform them that they will be recalling the 2010 Prius gas-electric hybrid as well as 2 other hybrid models which are the Lexus HS250h sedan and the Sai, after the recent request by the Ministry for Toyota to thoroughly investigate the problem. They said that the recall would encompass in total 223,000 units and that they will recall around 200,000 units of the Prius sold in Japan from April until the present day.

According to Hiroyuki Yokohama, the manager of Toyota who handed the papers to the Ministry "We have decided to do a recall. We will do our best to regain customers' trust." This recall is not part of the current recall of the one with the sticky gas pedal.
