The Equus, which essentially is a US spec model is aimed to compete with Lexus (LS 460) and it is also looking to go against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S550 as well. Positioning a model this high of the spectrum might be risky but early reviews have since been very positive and it might just be the right move for Hyundai towards establishing themselves as a major force in the automotive industry.

The Equus, if you haven’t already know is not a new model as it has been around in Korea for more than 10 years now, so to say that Hyundai is trampling on uncharted ground would not be accurate but the uncharted territory here would be the American market, which they are planning for Fall this year. comparatively with the likes of the S550 and LS 460, the Equus has more space inside and do actually comes with all that makes this car luxurious.

Under the hood is where you will find the 4.6 liter TAU V8 engine which is also superior compared to its 2 closes rivals although in falls a bit short in terms of torque. The engine is paired with a 6 speed automatic transmission gearbox which takes about 6.4 seconds to get you from zero to hundred. Of course, the drawback of the handling is overcame by the Electronically-Controlled Air Suspension where you can adjust its height and comes with 2 different modes namely ‘Sport’ and ‘Normal’ where the former firms up the suspension and very cool when you take on corners while the latter switches it back to the normal suspension.

Inside the car, you will like its Lexicon powered audio system which comes with a 13 channel amplifier that gets you the very cool 7.1 surround sound system. The sound is channeled out through its 17 speakers located around the car to give you the best possible experience in terms of entertainment. Of course, then there are the iPod and USB connectivity as well as cool features like the XM Satellite Radio and HD Radio. If that is not cool enough, you will surely like the optional power-adjustable and massage seats for the driver. The 19 inch chromed alloy wheels just adds on to the looks of this car. Luxurious or not, this car is impressive.
