Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, the deputy minister of international trade and industry announced in the Dewan Rakyat that up until last year, there has been some 604 hybrid cars sold. This came in the wake of the recent move by the government to waive the tax for hybrid vehicles as well as an extension to the end of this year. He said that at the moment, the Toyota Prius Hybrid and the Honda Civic Hybrid are the models which are very much sought after.
In contrast, only 10 units were sold in 2008 when it was first introduced while in 2009 there were 267 new hybrids. The remaining 327 units were sold in 2010 bringing the final figure to 604.
