Audi A8 Hybrid – Fast, eco-friendly, hybrid and good-looking

Perhaps to some Hybrids are still the way to go before cars go fully electric and this is just one of the few models which Audi has come up with recently. Based on the Audi A8, the Hybrid version pretty much is an extension of its variants. You can expect this version to come along as a full 2 mode hybrid which can be powered up through its petrol engine, the electric motor or a combination of both.

This new hybrid is set for production come late 2011 hence you can expect some minor changes somewhere and that means this car will no longer be a concept. At the moment it goes by the tag of a ‘technology concept’. Under the hood you get the 2.0 TFSI 4 cylinder engine which will boost out some 211 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The petrol engine is also paired with an electric motor that charges up the lithium ion battery where you will get a 45 horsepower push which means if you run both motors simultaneously, you will get up to 245 horses and a 354 lb-ft of torque.

The A8 Hybrid is reported to be able to get you from zero to hundred in 7.6seconds and top speeds at 146 m/h. At such high speed, the fuel consumption is still pretty much impressive with a 38 US mpg and according to Audi, if you are running entirely on electric mode, you can get up to 1.2 miles at the speed of 40mph. The electric motor will be activated as a generator when coasting or braking that will then convert the energy into it lithium ions hence this surely is a great facility if you are driving in the city. It is time to take hybrids seriously and with models like these, it just reinstates its importance.
