This looks like a car out of the movies and very much so it is. Seen at the Beijing Motor Show, the Hongqi L7 was shown and this comes in the form of the old, retro looks with a new and modern twist to it.
In fact, the most interesting thing about this is that it has that old look but it is a very much modern car where the L7 is powered up by a 402 horsepower, 6.0 liter V12 engine designed by Hongqi and built on the Toyota Landcruiser platform. This version is only meant for top party officials as the mass market would get a different offering.
Hongqi or Red Flag as it is known in China will be offering the H7 Luxury Sedan which will be targeted for the mass market and there will be the entry level 2.0 liter turbo version, the 2.5 liter V6 version and that 228 horsepower, 3.0 liter V6 top range model. The 2 top versions are basically Toyota supplied mills and as mentioned, perhaps the most impressive thing about the Hongqi is the design. While it is very much China made, it gives you the official type of car as well as those old retro horses seen in movies. So you can start dreaming now, can’t you?
