Barrichello joins Williams

The news have been going around for weeks now with a potential musical chairs being talked about and some confirmed like Fernando Alonso’s move to Ferrari for one and the linking of Kimi Raikkonen back to his former team McLaren. Having said that, Williams must be buzzing with expectations with Barrichello’s joining of the team and how he managed to nearly gave Button a run for his money for the title would be more than merely flashes of the most experienced driver in the sport.

According to Frank Williams, the team principal, “Rubens needs no introduction. He is not only the most experienced driver in Formula One but a passionate and talented driver who fought hard for the Championship this year. Nico won the GP2 Championship this season as a rookie and has previously won the F3 Euroseries, Formula Master, A1 GP and Formula BMW Germany.”

He added that “Nico Rosberg and Kazuki remain our drivers until the end of 2009 and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their contribution to the team. Nico and Kazuki have represented Williams and our partners with dedication, discipline and skill and we wish them every success with their future endeavors.”

Barrichello has made 284 appearances in Formula 1 where he first started off in 1993 with the then Jordan team. He has in his name some 11 wins which included stints with Honda, Ferrari and Stewart but it would be in the Brawn GP team which he was mostly known since he started the season without a team. Barichello said that his new team is “one of the best teams out there, and are on their way up.”

He also said “I have a lot of passion for speed, for overtaking, for the things that pump me up, the challenge of winning. I want to go on and have a chance to keep on winning.”
