BMW M’sia rolls out the cheapest 5 series ever, the new BMW 520D

Good news for all you BMW 5 series lovers as BMW Group Malaysia has launched their latest model under its fleet, the 520d. this is the first diesel model to be brought in to our market here which will be sold for RM333,800. This means that being RM50,000 cheaper than the currently selling BMW 523i, it is now the cheapest 5 series ever.

Unveiled at the BMW Malaysian Open 2011 which is part of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association), the main attraction would most likely be the price of this new model which does not come with the 4-zone climate control and the Integral Active Steering system as found in the 523i. Otherwise, the rest of what is available in the 523 are also fitted into this one. This includes the iDrive system, the LCD navigation control and others. The other major difference between this 2 siblings is of course the engine.

Under the hood in this one is the N47D 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder common-rail direct injection BMW Advanced Diesel Block engine which is paired with the 8HP45, 8 speed automatic transmission gearbox that gets you up to 184 horses at 4,000rpm. 17 inch wheels are provided here, engulfing over its 225/25 tyres. The power drags you from zero to hundred in 8.1 seconds and top speeding at 225km/h. It also comes with an impressive fuel consumption level where it averages at 5.2 liters per 100kms.

Standard equipments here include the Dynamic Stability Control System, the Dynamic Driving Control and the Dynamic Damping Control as well as the BMW EfficientDynamics feature that includes electromechanical steering system and the Brake Energy Regeneration. You will also get the BMW ConnectedDrive system which integrates the connectivity of USB devices, Bluetooth through mobile devices like phones, MP3 or audio players and such.

In addition to the cool price, it is also covered with the BMW Service + Repair Inclusive program which is a great feature as it includes replacements and repairs for standard services and maintenance of the car. This ranges for 60,000km or 3 years whichever comes first. The price does not include insurance but even with that included, it would not be very high. After all it will be coming out of the Kulim plant which also rolls out BMW’s 523i and 528i. So this really would be quite a neat purchase.
