In Spain, he took home the race and winning the race with a surplus of 13 seconds from his team mate Rubens Barrichello. Barichello and Button both drove flawlessly to deny anyone spoiling their party as Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel grabbed the preceding places. Felipe Massa, the Ferrari driver was fourth throughout the race but had to slow down towards the closing stages as the car was running out of fuel and an additional pit stop would have pushed his position lower. Having given up third place to Vettle, Massa saw his 4th place taken over by Fernando Alonso as he needed to slow down more to finished fifth. BMW Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld took seventh while Nico Rosberg took eight. World Champion holder Lewis Hamilton finished outside the points.
