Chery A520 – An affordable solution for the practical seeking driver

It comes with a 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder, 16 valve DOHC engine and is designed based on the Seat Toledo platform. The design however is done by the Italian company Bertone with Austrian AVL developing the powertrain. Very much like its China competitors this gives the car an integrated expertise from various countries.

Distributed by Chery Alado Malaysia, the 2.0 liter version means it is way cheaper than many other of its compatriots which include the Honda Civic and is competitively priced among the ‘lower’ specification models like the City as well as the Toyota Vios. At RM95,888, the engine get you up to 129PS and a maximum 180Nm of torque and gets to a 185km/h top speed. The engine is paired with either a 5 speed manual transmission or a 4 speed automatic transmission gearbox. Adhering to the Euro 3 emission class, fuel consumption of this model is 7.2liters per 100 kilometers when cruising at 90.

The car measures 4552 mm long, 1750 mm wide and 1483 mm tall and gets from zero to hundred in 13 seconds. As this is not a performance car, you can least expect it to be a very fast car. If you haven’t already know, Chery is actually an established Chinese car brand with quite an impressive list of models in its stable which also includes the Chery Tiggo which carries the same engine with the A520.

It also comes with quite an impressive list of fittings as well where you get to control your audio system on the steering wheel mounted buttons, a 3 probe reverse sensor system and get this, the remote boot opening function which seldom come with cars in this segment. The company also claims that the chassis is tuned by Lotus which surely is a plus, plus point.
