Owned by China’s Chery Automobile Co., Ltd, Chery is headquartered in Anhui in China. Since its inception in 1997, Chery has been making a lot of progress in the global automotive industry through its aggressive branding and marketing campaigns. It is a government-owned corporation which is mainly involved in the manufacturing and distribution of passenger vehicles mainly.
In terms of production in 2012, Chery was the tenth-largest China-based automotive company where it rolled out slightly more than half a million vehicles that year. Chery’s vehicles are rolled out through its several manufacturing plants around China as well as in 15 other countries. Its most popular model is the QQ city car which already made progress in various markets around the world due to its size and price. What makes Chery such a remarkable brand is the fact that it has expanded very aggressively in a relatively short time where it is now marketed in most parts of Asia and into other continents covering the likes of Ukraine, Uruguay and Venezuela.
For the Malaysian market, the Chery brand is marketed under Chery Automobile (M) Sdn Bhd where the cars are assembled in its Johor Bahru plant. The QQ compact car model has been one of the best-selling models for Chery in Malaysia while other models include the very popular Chery Eastar, the Eastar MPV and the Tiggo SUV.
