This is some very good news for women who use the country’s taxi services frequently as the government had embarked onto a ‘Women Taxi’ service following a recent similar move to have ‘women coaches’ in the LRT service.
This is where it is now safer for women to take taxis with the new project which is undertaken by the Ministry of Family, Women and Community Development together with ABEX Manufacturing Sdn Bhd.
According to Heng Seai Kei, the Deputy Minister of the ministry, women can now feel safer and be more confident when using the taxi services where the project involved some 50 taxi drivers who are on-call when needed. The project was launched recently at the Integrated Transport Terminal in Bandar Tasik Selatan in conjunction with the International Day of Violence Against Women where the ministry is looking to expand the women drivers to 400 for the Klang Valley.
Heng said that the ‘Women Taxi’ will have a sticker that states ‘TeksiWanita’ on the vehicle which is where it will be driven by a woman driver and will only take women passengers. This service will be spearheaded by 3 taxi companies which are Zalnas Sdn Bhd, Koperasi Pengangkutan Putrajaya dan Cyberjaya and Destination Transport and one can call 03-80240507, 03-26926000 and 03-88884020 to engage their services when needed.
