GWM (Great Wall Motors)

GWM or Great Wall Motors is a China-based automotive brand. It is owned by the Great Wall Motors Company Limited primarily involved in the production and marketing of GWM vehicles worldwide. The company’s headquarters is in Hebei, China where it was founded in 1984. There are several China automotive brands in the market today where GWM is among the top and most popular. In fact, it was recorded that GWM was the largest producer of SUV (sports utility vehicle) vehicles in 2010 and subsequently rolled out more than 675,000 units in 2012, making it the seventh largest Chinese automaker.

The company was started to produce only trucks from 1984 where it was the top pickup truck brand in 1998 and only in 2010 had GWM started focusing on saloon cars. In between that, GWM was sold in the small vans segment in Europe which constituted to the export market for the company. Its manufacturing facilities are located in several cities in China including its Hebei plant, Tianjin and some in other countries like Vietnam, Russia and Nigeria, among others. The oversea plants are mostly involved in assembling GWM vehicles for their respective markets.

Among its most popular models include the Great Wall Steed and Wingle Pickup trucks, the Haval SUVs and the city-car models like the Coolbear and Voleex are becoming more popular. In Malaysia, the Great Wall H5 and H6 have been well received while other models like the Wingle 5 and the Great Wall M4 are available as well.
