This model will be the company’s platform to test the new ideas which includes drive-by-wire steering, lithium polymer batteries and touch screen control system as well as the roof-mounted solar cells. The Blue-Will would give you up to 40 miles of driving in a single charge in its electric-only driving mode. On top of that, it also promises fuel economy of more than 100miles per gallon.
Developed by Hyundai’s Namyang Design Center, the Blue-Will would be the fourth revolutionary model to be produced. According to Oh Suk-Geun, Hyundai Motor Company’s Executive Vice-President of Design, “Blue-Will’s bold character lines and fluidic sculpture design language give the perfect expression to the advanced eco-friendly technologies found beneath the skin. At a time of rising concern about the environment and our energy future, Blue-Will demonstrates to eco-conscious car buyers everywhere that Hyundai has practical hybrid solutions that will appear on the next generation of vehicles.”
On the outside, the design encapsulates the ‘eco-sleek’ concept with an LED panel on the front to demonstrate the modern and futuristic direction of the company. The headlamp bezel was produced using recycled PET material while some interior and exterior parts used PLA and PA11 bioplastics.
The Blue-Will is powered up using an all-aluminum Gasoline Direct Injected (GDI) 1.6 liter engine paired with CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). The engine would be able to boost up to 152 horses where it also comes with a 100Kw electric model in this hybrid vehicle. This is where the gasoline engine powers the wheels directly and the electric motor would be activated when needed. Having said that, both the motors could also be powered up simultaneously as well and this is where all the future hybrids would be developed on.
