If the 3 ‘Malaysian’ teams don’t bring in the crowd, Korean popstar Rain would

The upcoming Formula 1 Championship is set to be explosive with the season curtain raiser taking place in Melbourne this weekend. After that, the circus will be heading towards our shores with 3 so-called ‘Malaysian’ teams. The Petronas Mercedes F1 team, the 1Malaysia Team Lotus as well as Lotus Renault are all set to slug it out for points when the rubbers heat the tracks in Sepang.

Now if that is not attractive enough, perhaps the side performances would. This is where the organisers are banking on the popularity of Korean pop superstar Rain to draw the crowd. He is scheduled to perform on the final day of the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix which they hope will help in bringing in more ticket sales.

According to Datuk Razalan Razali, the Chief Executive Officer of SIC (Sepang International Circuit), they have already sold 45,000 tickets with 3 more weeks before the big event. This he said is 10% more than what they projected earlier. He attributed the overwhelming support to the announcement that Rain will be performing on the ground in the final day. He also added that fans of the sport have also began trickling as many are looking for other options after the recent earthquake and tsunami disaster that hit Japan.

Travel agents from Taiwan has since been making enquiries with SIC who are confident that they would be able to reach their 100,000 ticket sales target. Furthermore, they also projected that sales of tickets would continue and skyrocket as the race draw closer as Malaysians tend wait until the last minute.
