The prancing Jaguar is perhaps one of the most iconic and recognized emblems in the world today. This is the very logo used by Jaguar, seen to be one of the top luxury vehicles in the world. Jaguar has come a long way from its inception in 1922 when it was founded by Sir William Lyons and William Walmsley. This British automotive brand is based in Coventry in England where it is among the mainstays of the luxury cars market segment.
It must be noted that despite having a rich British heritage and illustrious record in the global automotive market, Jaguar is no longer a British-owned brand. In fact, it was bought over by Indian automotive giant Tata Motors in 2008 and is now part of the Jaguar Land Rover brand stable.
It was originally the Swallow Sidecar Company when it was founded to manufacture motorcycle sidecars. The name was used until after the Second World War and in 1966 was sold to the British Motor Corporation. It will then grow to become the brand used by the Prime Minister of Great Britain like that was practiced in 2010 through the Jaguar XJ model.
Jaguar went through a series of restructuring in recent including the acquisition by Tata Motors which saw a more aggressive marketing campaign globally. In Malaysia, the Jaguar XJ, XK and XF models are available where it is marketed and distributed by Sisma Auto, a part of the Sime Darby AutoConneXion group which distributes many other top automotive brands for the Malaysian market.
