Kia Motors is the owner of the Kia automotive brand. It is one of the few Korean brands that have been hugely successful in the global automotive market. Kia was founded in 1957 which is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.
With more than 50 years in the market, Kia has been able to enhance its status as one of the top brands in various markets. Today, Kia cars are found in almost every corner of the world in which it is involved in a wide range of market segments. Kia’s compact car, the Picanto has won awards in Europe for its design and efficiency while it is involved in the production of commercial and luxury vehicles as well.
It is the second largest automobile manufacturer in South Korea after Hyundai which has a stake in this company. In 2012, Kia rolled out about 2.7 million vehicles and this has been steadily been the number for the following year as well.
It began as a manufacturer of steel tubing and bicycle parts before building complete bicycles in 1951. It will then build motorcycles before starting an automotive plant in 1973 thereby starting Kia’s venture into the car industry.
For the Malaysian market, Kia is assembled and marketed by Naza Group, one of the largest automotive groups in the country which markets several top brands as well. Kia has been very active and aggressive in the marketing efforts where it is among the main sponsors of the FIFA World Cup for several editions now while its recent models like the Picanto, Sportage have been given new looks and created a lot of interests among Malaysians.
