Ministry proposes no more postal summons
To solve this problem, the Home Ministry is proposing to the government that summons for traffic offences to no longer be sent through post. According to Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, the Home Minister, the proposal came after numerous complaints from the public where the ministry will also be proposing to the government to review its decision not to reduce the amount imposed on offenders of traffic rules.
He said that the one of the main complaints from the public is that the traffic summons were not committed by the drivers due to cases involving others driving their vehicles or others who are misuing their registration numbers. Hence in order to avoid victimizing the innocent, such issues must be studied properly and ensure that fair decisions are made. On top of that, the government will also have to decide on the most suitable and affordable amount to be imposed on summons particularly for those with more than one summons. This will be discussed between Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan, the Chief Secretary to the Government and Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam, the secretary-general of the Home Minister.
