Nasim released an official statement which stated that at 3,800 units, it would be comparable with last year’s figures where they sold some 3,766 units and that with the plan to launch 3 new models and 2 models which are face-lifted, they are confident that sales will pick up and hit the forecast by the second half of 2010. "Furthermore, total sales in 2009 included the 206 Bestari, which has since been phased out. Excluding the 206 Bestari, the company's sales in 2009 would have totalled 1,419 units, which in itself represented a seven-fold jump from 2008's figures,"
In January 2008, Nasim, a subsidiary of Naza Group was appointed as the official distributor for Peugeot cars in Malaysia. Not taking into figures of the 206 Bestari, Nasim had already rolled out some 715 units of Peugeot cars from January to April this year. This is 3 times the figure which was recorded in the same months in 2009 where they sold only 262 units.
These figures primarily comes from the good sales of the 308 Turbo while its 308 VTi and the 407 too are experiencing good demand and sales. SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin, the Chief Executive Officer of NAsim said that the upward revision of the sale forecast takes into account the anticipated demand for the product lines as well as the upcoming models which will be coming into Malaysia including the very popular 3008 SUV which will be introduced this coming June.
At the moment, Nasim is already entertainment inquires on the 3008 and has started receiving pre-launch booking for the model which has since won various accolades in Europe including the ‘Car of the Year 2010’ from ‘What Car?’ magazine, one of the most renowned publications of the automotive industry. So far, Peugeot has recorded sales of 62,000 units since its launch in Spring 2009 till the end of that year. Nasim will also be bringing in the 5008 MPV as well as a new B-segment sedan that goes with a code T33 at the moment. The Peugeot cars will be assembled in its Gurun plant in Kedah.
