New and facelifted models will boost sales for Proton

According to Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir, the Managing Director of the company, the facelift model will be showcased at the widely anticipated Kuala Lumpur Car Exhibition 2010 which is scheduled to take place in early December. He was speaking at the launch of the Safety and Health Campaign on the road and Workplace where he told the media that the new models will surely translated into higher sales for Proton.

He also said the company is planning a soft launch for the new models after the upcoming festive season where the nation will be celebrating the Hari Raya Aidilfitri. At press time, the company is done with their ‘trial production, plant and road testing’. He however did not name which model will be getting the facelift. At the moment, they want the model to remain as a suspense but he did say though that it is one of their more popular models.

As for the 2010-2011 financial year, they are setting their target ambitiously to roll out 170,000 units then where they are currently on track and that the upcoming 2 new models will surely give them the momentum they need to achieve their target. For the first quarter of the financial year ending 30 June 2010, the company posted a RM104.647 million in pre-tax profit which was an improvement from the same period last year where the company posted RM64.379 million.

At the moment the company is in talks with 5 banks where they are working out better financing packages for its customers, vendors and distributors which will involve interest rates and tenure of payments.
