Peugeot RCZ to take on Audi TT, and deservingly so

Set to be introduced in Malaysia at the last quarter of this year, tie RCZ surely has what it takes to be a great car. It was first unveiled at the 2007’s Frankfurt Motor Show when it was still a concept and after 4 years of fine tuning, the time is ripe for it to go into production. The mass produced version was put on show at the recently concluded Geneva Motor Show and this surely is an exciting 2+2 Coupe version which will last for a long time, in terms of its design that is.

Competing with the Audi TT Quattro, the RCZ is widely expected to be sold in Malaysia for a little shy of RM200,000 which comes in 3 different engine choices. At its entry level you will get its 1.6 liter engine which was developed with BMW for the Mini Cooper which comes with a 156 horsepower. The same engine also comes with a turbo-charged version which gets you up to 200 horses. If you like it in diesel, the 2.0 liter engine comes with 163 horses and 340Nm of torque of which all engines are paired with a 6 speed manual transmission gearbox. at the moment, the automatic gearbox version is not available and will only be launched in the next month or so. Once that is done, it will then be introduced into our roads.

There will be up to 170,000 units which will roll out of its plants in the next 1 year or so and if the demand is strong, then an additional 50,000 units are in the plans. For the diesel version, you get from zero to hundred in 8.2 seconds and top speeding at 210km/h while the turbo-charged petrol version does it in 7.5 and top speeding in 5km/h more. At the sort of price mentioned, this would surely be one of the most anticipated models to come around our roads in recent years.
