Syed Zainal said "Currently, feasibility studies are going on. We expect to finalise them by year-end," at the company’s 2010 Family Day Celebration which was held in conjunction with the 25th year anniversary celebrations as well. Syed Zainal though did not elaborate further on about the consolidation exercise.
Proton has in Tanjung Malim a state-of-the-art plant which apart from being 5 times bigger than the one in Shah Alam, is designed to be able to produce multi-model products on a common line. On top of that, it is also flexible enough to change production to meet the changing demands of the market whenever the situation warrants it.
And for the first time ever, Proton will be joining the prestigious Geneva International Motor Show this year which will be in March and it is widely regarded as one of the most important events in the automotive industry and is participated by almost all major car manufacturers around the world where they will put up their latest models, concept cars and technology up for show. Syed Zainal added that "We have come of age and the participation shows that the Proton brand is growing,"
On the next step for Proton, Syed Zainal said that they will be using the successful MPV Proton Exora to penetrate the Middle East market and that will take place in the second quarter where he reported that currently, the Exora has already been successful in other South East Asia countries like Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore with 2,300 units sold so far. The Exora, which is priced between RM72,000 and RM76,000 has so far received up to 38,000 bookings while since its launch in April last year had already rolled out some 24,000 units.
This shows that the model is one of the better performers in the segment and this was voiced by the company’s adviser Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who said that the sales volume recorded showed that the company has again taken the lead in the competition for its innovation and changing mindset of the company.
