The Czech Republic’s representative in the automotive industry Skoda will be challenging in the WRC (World Rally Championship) after winning the IRC (Intercontinental Rally Championship) where they will now be able to go for it against the likes of Audi, Subaru and Mitsubishi in the more senior and grueling motor sports competition. But before they make it to the top notch competition, they will have to first take on the S-WRC which is a new category started last year for Super 2000 models.
Skoda will be sending in 2 teams to join S-WRC this coming season where one is a collaboration work with Red Bull while another team comes in the form of Baumschlager Rally Racing. The Red Bull Rally Team won the inaugural S-WRC this year making it a double for the Austria based team which also won the Formula 1 World Championship. The private Skoda team, led by Raimund Baumschlager comes from an individual who is known for his experience in the sport from Austria. He has been instrumental in using the Fabio Super 2000 in the competitions which have since won many accolades in the past 2 years.
The Skoda-Red Bull team will be driven by Finnish Juho Hänninen & Mikko Markkula who won the IRC while a German duo of Hermann Gassner jr. and Katharina Wüstenhagen will be on the seats for the other team. Michal Hrabanek, the head of Motorsports for Skoda said that the Fabio Super 2000 project has come a long way and it is good that they have involved Red Bull Racing who has been actively participating in motorsports of late.
