Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, the Minister of International Trade and Industry said that the ministry has completed its study on the proposal for the consolidation of 2 of the main national car companies Proton Holdings Berhad and Perodua (Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd). This followed his recent announcement that the study had started and was near its completion.
With that, he said that now that the study is completed, the ministry will compile the report and submit it to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. The proposal was first mooted by Najib where he called for a consolidation of the local automotive companies in order to remain competitive in the global market.
Mustapa was speaking at the monthly gathering and innovation and quality ceremony at MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) where he added that they are now setting the date to present the report to Najib for his consideration.
