It seems that Malaysia will set to roll out another established car brand as in a recent signing of MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) between Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd with Tan Chong Group, Subaru cars will be assembled here.
Fuji Industries is the owner of the Subaru brand while Tan Chong is the manufacturer and assembler of Nissan and Renault cars in Malaysia which means that they will add another brand to their product line.
The MoU ties both automotive giants of their respective countries to start with the Subaru SUVs and it will kick start next October (2012) and will come out through the Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn Bhd’s plants where the target is to start with 5,000 units per year.
The cars will then be marketed and sold in Malaysia as well as in Thailand and Indonesia and will use the sales and distribution network of Tan Chong Motors. Fuji and Tan Chong have been working partners for many years, dating back to 1987 when the latter was appointed as the Subaru distributor for Singapore. It is hoped that with the MoU, Subaru can further leverage their brand presence in the Asean region that covers other countries including the Philippines, Taiwan, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Southern China.
