The distributor of Nissan cars in Malaysia, ETCM or Edaran Tan Chong Motors Sdn Bhd recently launched their new Nissan Teana luxury sedan model. According to Datuk Dr Ang Bon Beng, the Executive Director of the company, they are targeting to roll our 600 units monthly of this model which is being assembled in their plant in Serendah.
He also announced that there will be 2 variants of the Teana available for the Malaysian market which are the 2.0 L and the 2.5L V6 models respectively. With that, the company is confident that they will be able to obtain some 30% of the mid-sized car or D segment market share. On top of that, there will also be a top range 3.5L V6 model but it is for the upmarket buyers and is not being assembled here. Instead, it will be fully imported from its headquarters in Japan and they plan to sell some 30 to 40 units every month.
Sold for RM138,000, Ang said that come January, the price might be increased to about RM3,000 to RM4,000 more. The 2.0L model is the entry level one which is the same engine being fitted in the Nissan Sylphy that gets you about 135 horses and 190Nm of torque. The engine is mated with the XTronic CVT gearbox. Meanwhile, the higher model, 2.5L V6 is developed to boost out some 180 horses and 228 Nm of torque mated with the same gearbox.
As mentioned, if you are one for the top range model, then the fully imported 3.5L V6 model gets you to 250 horses and 326Nm of torque. The size of the car is something to be excited about as it is 4,850 mm long, 1,795 mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2,775 mm long. Looking big and spacious, it also come with a 506 liter bootspace as well. The 2.0L Comfort model gets you the standard ABS, EBD, dual airbags, a 6 CD changer MP3 player as well as a multi information display. However, if you opt for the 2.0L Luxury model which is RM4,000 more, you get front parking sensors and leather upholstery. Keyless entry and engine start comes with the 2.5L V6 model as well as VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control, side airbags and steering wheel mounted audio controls.
