The future looks like the Audi E-Tron

The E-Tron is designed based on the R8 architecture albeit with a smaller body about the length of the A3. Its wheelbase is 102 inches and this seriously is not a car with a lot of space inside. Its battery pack is quite huge and takes up more space as compared to the R8’s engine wrapped in liquid-cooled safety foil. The lithium-ion battery cells gives you up to 53kWh which is the same as the Tesla Roadster. It powers up 4 electric motors which gets you up to 313 horsepower.

Looking every bit like a roadster, you can least expect to get any sort of additional space in this car where getting in and out of the car in itself seemed to be a wee bit problematic. After all this is not meant to be a car which is used to bringmuch cargo around. So it is important that it is meant only for those who are interested in speed and speed only.

The Audi E-Tron comes with a nice looking driver’s seat accessories which makes you feel like you are driving either a fither jet or a futuristic spaceship so don’t be too surprise to see some real sophisticated controls around the dashboard. There is the LED monitor which is set instead of the rear-view mirrors as well a s a sport flat bottom steering wheel. Of course then there is the start button and then the car just goes. Audi said that it gets you from zero to hundred in 4.8 seconds and top speeds at 125 mph, so you can be sure that this car is no minnow when it comes to speed.

It will start production come 2011 together with the Audi R8 and the Lamborghini Gallardo where Audi announced that an initial 100 units will first be rolled out and that they will go along a leasing concept. In 2012, they will plan another 1000 where it will then be either leased or sold. This car has all the looks of the future and it seemed to bring future nearer than you can expect and come 2011, it will surely be something worth looking forward to.
