Road accidents in Klang Valley happens everyday. The causes of road accidents range from carelessness to reckless driving and from fatigue to offensive drivers.
Some blame in on bad weather like the haze or it could even be poor maintenance but whether you are driving a brand new Peugeot or a 10-year old Proton Iswara, you must know where the deadliest roads in Kuala Lumpur are which will make a lot of difference when you drive.
According to the Road Safety Department (JKJR) and the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police, the 5 deadliest roads in the city last year are (in no particular order):
- Jalan Genting Klang
- Jalan Ipoh
- Jalan Kuching
- Jalan Kepong
- Middle Ring Road 2 or MRR2
If they are to be put in terms of fatalities, MRR2 claimed 18 lives while Jalan Kuching reported 10 deaths. The other 3 roads recorded 11 deaths each.
In terms of road accidents, the 5 most accident-prone ones in Kuala Lumpur are:
- Jalan Kepong
- MRR2
- Jalan Tun Razak
- Jalan Cheras
- Jalan Ipoh
Jalan Kepong itself recorded 2,648 road accidents in 2012 while the other four roads all had more than 1,900 accidents throughout last year. In total, Kuala Lumpur recorded 63,217 accidents last year. In the first 10 months of this year, this number has reached 52,908.
According to the JKJR the main causes of accidents are bad infrastructure and bad driving attitudes. This means that potholes and uneven surfaces are among the contributors here and hence, the next time you are driving along these roads, be extra careful.
