Volvo cars have always epitomized safety, reliability and sturdiness. Owned by the Volvo Personvagnar AB, which comes under the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group of China, this automotive brand has often been regarded to be one of the most significant exports of Sweden for many decades now. Founded in 1927, it is one of the oldest Swedish brands today where its headquarters is in Gothenburg.
Although Volvo is owned by a foreign company, it remains as one of the national pride of the country. AB Volvo owned the brand until 1999 before it was taken over by American automotive giant Ford Motor Company which would then be acquired by the Geely Holding Group a year later.
Today, Volvo is involved in a broad range of products in various market segments that include its very popular station wagon cars, compact sedans, coupes and SUVs. Its largest market is in the United States and many parts of Europe like Germany, the UK, Belgium and at home in Sweden while through its parent company in China as well. Volvo means ‘I Roll’ in Latin which has been registered in 1915 and continues to be the glaring emblem for this brand ever since.
In Asian countries like Malaysia, Volvo is represented through a strong network of dealers and service centers. The S Series models are among the most popular variants sold and driven in Malaysia while others like the V Series and the XC SUV models have been quite popular in recent years as well.
