Buying a car, regardless of whether it is a new or used one has many challenges. But before you go out and start negotiating with a used car dealer for a vehicle you like, you might have to get rid of your current vehicle.
The last thing you want is to have your car classified as dirt, cheap car. So you might want to consider the following tips to try and get as much value as possible.
Restoration – If you have modified your car in any way previously, try to restore it to its original specifications. You might not want to spend to repaint the whole car but other parts like exhaust pipes, air filters and even the audio player should be changed back to its stock version. This is because buyers might not be too happy about customized vehicles which could mean that it is not ‘accident free’.
Touchup – There could be minor or major dents around the car that you can ignore when you own it. If you want to sell it, get them touched up. You need to give it some paint jobs here and there but the first impression will be very important.
Shop around – In most cases, used car prices are quite standard in the market. However, it makes a lot of difference if you shop around for the highest buyer. As there are hundreds of used car dealers around Malaysia, find those most convenient to you and start discussing.
Types of buyer – You would be advised by now to try and sell individually as dealers tend to ‘push’ your prices down. Selling to private owners might be challenging because there is a lot of documentation. But if you want a better and higher price, that would be your ideal choice.
Images – If you are posting the images online or in classified ads, then make sure that you have some high quality and enticing photos of your car. Again, the first impression matters here.
